On slide gates, we see it in the chain/idler bracket and the drive rail support stanchions, especially on 16-foot and heavier panels. The DoorKing 1601 and 1602 barrier gates have their own weak spot: the pivot ears where the arm attaches to the motor casting, which crack when the arm gets hit repeatedly by impatient drivers.

Before you buy anything, check your operator’s data plate. That stamped tag will have the model and serial, and it is the fastest way for us to match the right bracket geometry and steel thickness. There are at least three different hinge offsets across DoorKing’s swing line, and a fabrication that measures close is still wrong if the offset is off by even 3/8 of an inch. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: DoorKing’s OEM welded brackets are not particularly special steel. We fabricate replacement pieces from A36 structural plate, often a full gauge thicker than the original stamping, and our done-right promise covers the weld, not just the part.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags at the latch side even after hinge adjustment. That sag usually lives in the hinge post, where the weld or the post itself has fatigued. Fix the panel without the post and you’ll fix it twice.
• A cracking or popping sound when the gate starts to move. The weld is flexing before it lets go. In Tarzana’s clay soil, post movement starts this sound months before the visible crack shows up.
• The operator bracket shows a hairline crack at a hard corner. Sharp outside corners concentrate stress. A proper bracket rebuild includes radiused corners or a gusset plate so we’re not reproducing the original design’s weak point.
• Visible rust bleeding from a weld seam or bolt hole. That means the protective coating has opened and the steel underneath is oxidizing. In Tarzana’s heat, the coating goes first, but the base metal failure follows within a year or two.
• The gate no longer closes flush, even though the operator limit switches are right. The panel or the post has moved, and the geometry will keep fighting every other adjustment until the metal is squared and re-welded.
